The Roman Emperor Constantine, Who ruled from 306 AD to 337AD, has left his mark in the History as the Ruler who united the Western and Eastern Roman Empire.
When Constantine came to the throne, the Roman Empire consited of the two separate empires, one in the Western Europe, and the other in Eastern Europe. Constantine was a mighty general who become the sole ruler of both the Western and the Eastern halves, and united them into one powerfull empire.
In AD 324, Constantine established a new capital of the Roman empire. He named it Constantinople, and it becomes the largest city of its times. Constantine was converted to Christianity, and become the first Christian emperor of the Roman empire.
Writers, artist, and musicians were encouraged. it was also an era of inventions and discoveries in Science and Technology. Nalanda University which became the center for the education was built during this time. The great mathematician Aryabhata, The Poet Kalidasa, and revered Physician Dharvantari all lived during this era. Therefore, it is not surprising that this period is considered to the Golden age of the ancient India.
